FAQS
What is the age / grade range for Middle School Camp?
Young Life Middle School Camp is available to students who have completed 6th - 8th grade (or, in other words, rising 7th through 9th graders).
Who will be watching my student while at camp?
Your student will be supervised at camp by adults with several different roles:
Young Life Leaders: Staff & volunteers who come to camp with students from their hometown for the express purpose of spending the week investing in students (Young Life’s version of “counselors," but way cooler)
Assignment Team: Full-time Young Life staff from across the country working at Lake Champion for the summer as Speakers, Program Team, etc.
Summer Staff: College-aged volunteers who serve as lifeguards, work in the snackbar, etc.
How many students will be at camp?
Between 300 - 450 students will be at Lake Champion from areas all over the country! Not only will your student have the opportunity to bond with other New Canaan students, but they will experience camp with new friends from all-over.
What kind of message will be shared by the Camp Speaker?
Each evening, our Camp Speaker will share a short message exploring who Jesus is, based on a passage from the Bible, just like we do at First Fridays every month here in New Canaan!
How does transportation to / from camp work?
All students will meet at Saxe Middle School in New Canaan for drop-off; we will then take a charter bus to camp! Students will be picked up at Saxe Middle School again when we return.
Are there accommodations for dietary restrictions at camp?
Yes! We communicate dietary restrictions ahead of time to camp to ensure your child is served gluten-free / diary-free / etc. options when needed.
Is technology allowed at camp?
Phones, ipads, tablets, etc. (anything with wifi and messaging) are not allowed at camp. Instead, we provide students with the opportunity to be present with the friends around them!
How can I talk with my student at camp?
Should you need or want to, you can always reach your student at Camp by calling the office and/or their Young Life Leader. Your student can also call YOU on one of the many camp landlines to tell you about how much fun they're having!
What if my student gets sick / hurt?
Camp is staffed each session with a Camp Doctor and EMTs there to help your student should they need any medical attention.
